Quotes about Play That I feel Represent my Childhood!
Children should be free to play and follow their own pursuits as well as learn the value of hard work.

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
George Bernard Shaw

“Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.”
Diane Ackerman
My parents encouraged play when me and my brother completed our schoolwork. We could watch our favorite show for half an hour and then we could decide which toy or game we wanted to play with until it was time for dinner. That time would give my mom time to finish up her chores and dinner because both my parents worked full time as me and my brother were growing up. As soon as she was done my mom would sit and play with both us before dinner. She tried her best to chase us around the house. When weather was good we would go to the near by school yard for a little while to play handball. My mom supported play only if we did all our schoolwork, our chores ( putting our clothes in hamper and keeping our room clean) otherwise she was very strict. Weekends was family time, all my cousins would get together and play. Boys would play video games and us girls would play house with barbies and Ken dolls. When the weather permitted the whole family would go to the park. We would barbecue and spend the whole day picnicking on the grass. The kids would play baseball, soccer and run through the sprinklers. Sometimes our parents would join in and it would be adults versus kids. It was lots of fun.
Differences in Experiences of Play
Play today is less of children enjoying themselves instead most patents are using it to keep their kids happy and content so they cab get their own work done. I do not see much engagement in playing with parents and kids. I believe it is just a necessity now for patents to have peace. also many adults use play date in order to get to know other parents and interact social while children play.
Play was a major factor during early childhood days because my imagination was always in use. The only time me and older brother played together is if i agreed to play video games with him. I have great memories when it comes to playing with the family. My dad worked a lot so could not always join in. My mom did her best to initiate play time with us. During my adult my form of play refers to going to amusement parks because I love roller-coasters and bungee jumping. Now that my brother and I have our own family we try to do the same things and have the cousins hangout on the weekend so they can build their own memories together.
I have include a school photo. I would always attend the music festivals with my parents while they supported me and cheer me on. Below is a family trip to the Bronx Zoo. We did lots of things, but unfortunately cameras are not like they are today, so many memories are just stored in the brain.
